10 Tips on How to be a Positive Person - #4 - Be Active

Note: In this series of posts, I will share 10 tips on how to be a more positive person. At the end of the series, I will gather them all together for a synopsis.

"An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day." – Henry David Thoreau
Positive people are physically active. Regular exercise not only keeps the body fit but also causes the soul to be happy. It physically takes you away from a problem for a while and also detaches you from it emotionally, refreshing you as you get ready to face it once again.

Whenever you are anxious about something, you have to give your mind and body an opportunity to step back and turn away from the negativity in order to formulate an appropriate solution. Physical activity sets off feel-good endorphins that will stimulate your brain and give you a more positive outlook.

Exercise also brings you back to the present. As you become aware of the bodily strain of the workout, you become fully immersed in the moment, draining worries and anxieties out.

Here are some tips on how to stay active:

1. Schedule a regular time of exercise

Whether in the morning, afternoon, or evening, a regular schedule of exercise is crucial to creating more positivity in your life. It doesn’t have to be strenuous or complicated. A simple daily 30-minute workout right in your home or a quick run around the neighborhood is enough as long as it is consistent.

2. Play a sport and engage with others
Make time to engage yourself in a sport you love together with other enthusiasts. It can be a team game like basketball, soccer, and football, or individual games such as tennis, boxing, and other forms of martial arts. Having to do it with others adds accountability to the activity, which can help you be more consistent. It is also a great opportunity to meet new friends.

3. Incorporate fitness in your daily routine

You can do this by creating simple habits that add more physical activity to your daily schedule. One example is standing while working. You can have a 30-minute span where you work with your laptop in a higher desk or table while standing. Another is parking your car all the way to the other end of the parking lot. By doing so, you have the chance to walk further to get to your destination. Another is to take the stairs instead of the elevator. I know there are many more ideas you can come up with.

Key Idea: Physical activity keeps you healthy and happy. Prioritize it and have fun with others.
