How to Keep Your Emotions Healthy

Another part of holistic well-being is the emotion.

This is one more aspect that should also be developed and improved for a life of true wellness and happiness.

When a person is easily affected by what is happening, he is prone to stress, anxiety, and depression.

Moreover, medical studies said that an emotionally unstable person is more vulnerable to debilitating conditions such as hypertension, stroke, heart attack, diabetes, and cancer.

The key to having healthy emotions is a good self-esteem.

You have to realize that you are special, unique, and no one else is like you or should be compared to you.

A person with low self-esteem tend to put himself down, thus further weakening whatever emotional strength he has left.

How to Keep Your Emotions Healthy

Below are three skills to cultivate in strengthening emotional health.

1. The skill of coping with disappointments.

Disappointments are the biggest reasons why people are stressed, restless, angry, miserable, unhappy, and dejected.

However, it is a given that disappointments happen in anyone and everyone’s lives.

One approach to deal with disappointments is to avoid expectations
Or at least don’t expect too much.

Whether it is on people, events, the weather, or anything external, see it with a perspective that life is actually and already flawed.

This is not negative thinking, but realistic thinking.

In reality, nothing is perfect. Everything and everyone is bound to make mistakes anytime.

If you accept that beforehand, then you will be able to cope up better when someone breaks his promise or when your football team doesn’t win the World Cup.

2. The skill of adapting to changes.

Emotionally healthy people welcome change and easily acknowledge things that cannot be changed. A scientific term for this is adaptability quotient or AQ.

AQ is a measure of how someone is able to become accustomed with his or her surroundings without so much damage to her physical, mental, and emotional self.

The same with disappointments, change is also something that is inevitable in life

Resistance to necessary change is a source of unhappiness.

3. The skill of not worrying about things that one has no control over.

Unless you realize that, you will always be upset and disappointed.

There is nothing more detrimental to a life of happiness than trying to get everything go your way.

The world is not made for anyone’s convenience, and that includes you.

Talking with loved ones who understand

One way to release emotional burden is talking with someone who is very close and who understands your situation.

Someone you can vent all your disappointments and frustrations but you can trust to be confidential about it.

One of the greatest advantages of having a true and close friend is having someone to share your innermost feelings and he or she will not judge you for it but instead will either support or reprove you truthfully and sincerely.

A real friend will listen to you and share with your joys and sorrows without blaming or putting you down.

A lot of scientific facts have proven that being involved in intimate friendships can actually help a person alleviate the effects of chronic stress.
